Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Hrm -- I was -hoping- for a review and find that I have to do all the work? Bah!

If you liked the first one -- I think you'll find this one to be worth your time. Everyone is pretty much on point. Depp is once again fantastically odd.

The little undead monkey is back -- though I'm not sure why it's still undead -- other than to provide a running joke.

I happened to think that the first

Pirates of the Caribbean

movie was pretty much a perfect blockbuster. Great effects, a few great roles (Notably - Depp) and some really fun action sequences involving sword fights. The plot got a bit convoluted toward the end -- but so what.

The best praise I can give the follow-up is that it falls into the same category. A lot of movie sequels re-use jokes from the first but in most cases DMC builds off of jokes from the first based on what you know about the characters. This is a much better tactic. (Far more rewarding.)

It might be a bit long -- but I was having so much fun with the story and the action that this doesn't bother me too much.

I wasn't aware that #3 was going to be a "continuation" of #2 so the last scene was a real surprise. (Both because the movie just "ends" and because of what happens.) It seems like we don't get much "to be continued" type cliff-hangers these days and this one was just perfect.

Some of the characters are a bit too similar and you tend to wonder who a lot of the people are. In all but one case these are minor red-shirts anyway.

As far as the third one goes, rumor has it that Jack Sparrow's father will be played by none other than.... Keith Richards.

Concerning DMC, you're review kind of put down some concerns of mine. I was worried that it was going to overdo the camp factor and just excessively use jokes from the first. That kind of strategy wears on me after a while (I'm looking at you, Austin Powers 3.)

Yeah -- that's the movie I had in mind when I said that -- though I will say that AP 3 was far better than AP 2.

With PotC: DMC there were times where I thought that they -were- going to rehash old jokes only to find that they banked on that expectation only to make a new "better" joke.

I thought it was very good overall. I'm not going to give it stars, but I will say that I would go and sit in a theater again too watch it. It was in the same vein as the 1st. I liked this because they didn't tell as much of the outside story that you saw in the first. Kinda like X-men 1 and X-men 2. You know the characters going into the second one so they don't have to do as much of the back story. They could focus on the main characters, which they do a great job of.

They brought back everyone, including the guard dog from the prison with the keys.

I didn't understand why the monkey was still undead too. I also didn't understand why Davey Jones and crew were squids and crustaceans, etc. Wouldn't they just be regular people?

It was one of those movies that I need to see again at some point, because I missed some jokes and scenes. Like when Knightly and Depp were doing that soliloquy about good deeds passing them by or something and there were a handful of double entendres in there that I knew were passing me by, but I was just trying to keep up with what they were saying. And then Depp ends the scene standing behind a cannon so it looks like his wee-wee is the cannon.

Or my mind could just be in the gutter.
